National Arts Festival 2030 - Collective Collage

This is an open-call to take part in our creative research experiment.

Future Festivals South Africa is working with the National Arts Festival as a research partner to find out: What will the National Arts Festival look like ten years from now?

Led by artists Duduetsang Lamola (blk banaana) and Francois Knoetze, this open-call invites you to playfully speculate and dream the kinds of spaces, places and people you would like to see form part of the National Arts Festival in the year 2030!

We are looking for your creative contribution in any format, for example:
A photo or scan of small collages created from home, a letter, an idea, a poem, a voice note or a sound recording. Be free and imaginative with your contributions!
 
Your contributions will form part of a collective visualizing of a future festival.  Duduetsang Lamola (blk banaana) and Francois Knoetze will incorporate and draw from your contributions to create an immersive 360-degree video of our future festival.  This video will be accessible online at the end of their final artistic process.

How to participate:
 
Imagine that it is now the year 2030, and you have just attended the National Arts Festival. Please tell us what your experience of the festival was like.  Be inspired, and create your response in any format you prefer.  It may be helpful to consider some or one of the following questions.

1. How would I like to experience NAF  in the future?
2. What is the position  of the 'audience'?
3. What kind of tools are making my experience of the festival possible?
4. What might  artwork look like in ten years time?
5. What might the spaces and environments look or feel like?
6. What kind of ‘public’ do you imagine engaging in  the NAF of the future?
7. Who invests in the festival in 2030?

Perhaps you would also like to consider whether things have changed for the better, for the worse or both?
